The Scout Barracks
Q1. The Scouts will need to learn facts about Mackinac Island, how to raise and lower the flags, march as a troop and as patrols ... Because of all of the information that the Scouts will need to learn, attending all meetings is critical.

Q2. The cost is $210 per Scout - a $60 deposit is required upon registration, the balance can be made in $50 payments with the final payment due by April 17.

Q3. The troop is made up of 41-54 boys and 10 adult leaders. The scouts will be divided into 4 patrols with the option of a fifth patrol for the Drum & Bugle Corps.

Q4. All scouts must be at least 13 years of age (by May 26), hold a rank of First Class, and been active with their troop during the previous year.

Q5. The troop will raise the flags each morning and lower them each evening. Scouts also act as guides in the fort, they will answer questions from the public about the fort and assist as needed. Most of the guide duties last approx. 2 1/2 hours per day.

Q6. All scouts and adult leaders will stay in the Scout Barracks, which is located behind the fort. The Barracks is a 2 story building with sleeping quarters for the scouts upstairs and the adults have separate quarters downstairs. The Barracks has a full kitchen, laundry, lavatory, showers and sick room.

Q7. Our service date is from May 26 thru May 31, 2008. We will arrive at the fort early Monday afternoon and depart at approx. 12:00 noon on Saturday.

Q8. The scouts will be required to have a full dress uniform with long trousers and short sleeve shirts. In addition to normal uniforms the scouts will need brown deck shoes and a red jacket. All of this will be discussed during the meetings, please do not purchase them ahead of time as all uniforms must be identical.

Q9. The barracks grounds includes a baseball diamond and horseshoe pit. Volleyball, badminton, basketball, hiking, bicycling(bring your own helmet) are all available for the boys when not on duty. The boys may also visit downtown, provided they go as a patrol and maintain the buddy system.

Q10. The troop will depart from Tall Pine Council Flint, MI on May 26: the mode of transportation is pending (usually a bus). All travel information will be finalized no later than May 15, 2008.
